"Why Canoa?!".
Hidden Gems of Canoa
Canoa isn’t just about the beach, flying and surf—it’s a town steeped in history and rich in natural wonders. There is a special energy here in the middle of the world.
Explore the ancient caves at low tide, visit the old kings’ fishing ponds, or take a guided hike through the ancient rain forest that surrounds the area.
(Permission to visit some of these places may be through private property. Be sure to check with locals first.)
When you’re ready to unwind after a day of exploration, head to BeerKingo, the local brewery that’s a hit with both tourists and locals alike. High in the hills of Canoa, this is truly a hidden gem. With its many themed pools perfect for lounging, it’s the ideal spot to relax with a cold drink in hand.
Looking for fine dining? Iche offers a one-of-a-kind culinary experience where traditional Manabí techniques and ingredients shine. Iche is not just a restaurant, but also a culinary school that prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients, creating meals you won’t forget. And the sunset view! Worth the trip alone.
*Ask how we can have Iche chefs come to The Coconut to cater your group event!
For the adventurers—horseback riding, skateboarding, motorcycle touring, kiteboarding, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, and even skydiving are all options in and around Canoa. If you’re seeking a bit more, head over to Bahía and sail the harbor at sunset on a pirate ship or grab the best ice cream in the region in San Vicente. All under 20 minutes from The Coconut Hotel.
Paragliding and Surfing in Canoa:
Paragliding in Canoa is an experience like no other and is why I picked this area for my home. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-timer, Canoa’s coastline offers some of the best ridge soaring conditions in South America.
Launch from one of several scenic cliffs behind the Coconut Hotel and glide effortlessly over the ocean, riding thermals that keep you aloft for hours. With XC soaring, you can make it all the way out to Monkey Beach and back, hands-free, soaking in the views and landing back in front of The Coconut. (For extra points, land on the party deck!)
Even hang gliders love it here, and the local paragliding community is friendly and open to visitors. Be sure to join the local flight club to learn more.
As an experienced pilot, you’ll find Canoa’s conditions better than Torrey Pines, and if you’re new to the sport, local instructors could guide you through it.
Want real XC? Chone is just 45 minutes away and offers a chance to beat your personal best with every flight!
The Coconut Hotel offers logistical support for paragliding instructors bringing groups, ensuring that all you need to do is fly. We’ve built relationships with property owners for private launches, local catering, drivers and more so getting your time to fly is seamless for you.
If you prefer the ocean to the sky, Canoa’s reputation as a surf town speaks for itself. February to May is the best time for surfing, but you’ll find good waves year-round. The surf break in town can get busy, but the private break at The Coconut Hotel is perfect for those seeking space and serenity. You get the best of both worlds—access to the town’s vibrant surf culture and a quiet, private break right at your doorstep.
Not Just for the Thrill-Seekers: Canoa is a Relaxing Retreat for Everyone
While Canoa is a playground for adventurers, it’s also a slice of paradise for those who prefer to just relax. Imagine a private beach vacation where the whole family is entertained—while dad (or mom!) surfs or paraglides, others can unwind with a world-class massage, lounging by the pool or taking in the views. Have meals brought to you or prepared for you right on the beach. Only reason to lift a finger is to point at what you want.
At The Coconut Hotel, we’ve created an oasis where families, guides, and corporate groups can enjoy all that Canoa has to offer with none of the stress.
Families with children will find endless activities, from stand-up paddleboarding on the river near the hotel to boogie boarding, slacklining, fishing and kayaking. We provide safe, fun options for the little ones, so you can sit back and relax.
And when it comes to meals, you’ll have the freshest seafood, fruits and vegetables from the local village or enjoy a homemade smoothie in your room—just freeze some of the amazing local fruits we have at The Coconut Hotel and blend them for a refreshing treat.
